R.E

Yesterday in R.E, we were recapping scenes from the story we had read a week previous(the story of Esther). http://www.dltk-bible.com/%5C/estherstory.ht click here for the full story. We done hot seating, pretending to be Esther and seeing how she would've felt when she stood up to the king, nervous?Confident?Terrified? One of the answers for the question: 'how would you tell the king?' was from Harry:" LISTEN UP YOU!..." Mrs Waites described it as 'all guns blazing'. One of the entries was: "Umm... I...I..."from Ollie. but in the real story Esther was so scared she arranged 3 dinner parties to finally tell the king that she was a Jew.

Science museum

Today we went to the science museum in London. We started off looking in the Space section where we saw different engines from rockets such as the V2 engine from 1944 - it was developed by the German army during the Second World War.

12 people have stepped onto the Moon, Neil Armstrong was the first in 1969 and Eugene Cernan was the last in 1972.

We visited the launch pad and had opportunities to take part in various activities, for example, discovering how we can extend rays of light using mirrors and coloured glass.

We investigated different sounds and how they can change in pitch.

Finally, we went to a science show about explosions! We experienced flour bursting into flames, flash paper and took part in some experiments ourselves.

Take a look at the pictures and videos below.

English mystery

Today in English we went to the churchyard for inspiration for our setting, but instead of making notes on the 5 senses, Bradley pointed out a box which was behind a a gravestone that had a skull and cross bone on it. Surrounding that gravestone, there were 6 more all from the same family, the Meadow's. We discovered that Thomas and Sarah were the parents and Mary, Sarah and Peter were the children who all died really young. There were 2 other family members, Pieter and possibly Wilfred but we are unsure of their relation to Sarah and Thomas.
Within the box we found: an old key which said 'DVCT1', an old photo frame, a charcoal pencil, a bone and 2 train tickets dated 27th November 2014 - London to Hemel.

Since our discovery, many of us have decided to change our story lines to include this mystery within our suspense story.

Please comment below if you have any more information regarding this family.

WOW PE - Watford Coaches

Today we have been learning how to play handball. We are taking part in a new 'move and learn' project. which is being delivered by our Watford Coach, DJ. We spent 45mins outside today learning the different throws that we can do - they are just like the throws in netball (shoulder, chest, bounce), we then played a game. We learnt that we could only take two steps when we had the ball in our hands, we passed the ball between each of our team members before we were allowed to score. After we had completed the practical part of the lesson, we came back to the classroom to take part in an interactive quiz. Within the quiz we have learnt what stamina and flexibility mean and we have also discovered that the name of Watford's home ground is Vicarage Road! We have had a fantastic morning!

Maths

What an exciting first day back! In maths today, we have been looking at all of the different measurements we know...there are more than we originally thought! We have talked about 8 furlongs being equal to a mile and 1000g being equal to a kilogram. We have been converting weights of animals at London Zoo which we have been learning about using Espresso. We had to use our knowledge to either multiply or divide by 1000. Earlier in the year we learnt how to do this by moving the decimal place.

Can you convert these weights to kg or g?

1. 4.245kg =   ?g
2. 3481g =     ?kg
3. 12g =     ?kg
4. 34kg =   ?g
