Probability

In Maths we were learning about probability. We were discussing various statements to decide whether they were: impossible, unlikely, even chance, likely or certain.
In our groups, to help us share our ideas we had discussion cards like: in my opinion, perhaps, furthermore, I agree with...because.
We were given a range of statements to organise under headings. Some of our statements were:
You will meet an alien on your way home from school, if you flip a coin it will land on 'heads' and you will roll a four on a 1-6 dice.

Fun French Food

Yesterday in French, we had an extremely fun lesson. Our French teacher, Miss Ayres, brought in some French food for us to try.We had a selection of:

  • Cheeses
  • Garlic sausage
  • Madelanes
We discovered how to say lots of new French words like: Je l'aime, Je ne l'aime pas and Tu l'aimes?
All in all, we had a great lesson.

Maths - shape work with iPads

Today in maths, we have been using an app called ‘geoboard’ to reinforce our knowledge of geometric shape properties. In pairs we took it in turns to create the shape our partner had decided upon. We then had to check that our shape was correct by informing them of the shape properties and the correct mathematical name.
The properties we have been using are the following:
Ø  Vertices
Ø  Edges
Ø  Angles – acute/obtuse/reflex/right angle
Ø  Perpendicular lines
Ø  Parallel lines

Instructions for hair and laces

In English today  we have been writing instructions on  how to plait hair or how to tie your shoe laces, e.g. "Firstly grab the two laces and make sure the laces are roughly the same length."
To make plaits for example, "Get a handful of hair and separate it into 3 equal parts. Then you should have a piece of hair in the middle, right and left. Then get the right piece of hair and place it next to the middle piece. Keep it tight. Place your left piece into the middle and so on.

We tested our instructions to see if they made sense. We found out that it was harder than you think because we missed out some simple instructions and didn't word them as clearly as we thought.

English

Today in English we were writing instructions on how to make a British cuppa. We were in our Guided Reading groups to write the set of instructions using: time connectives, short steps, imperative verbs and more. We had such a good time! Mrs Waites even got the kettle and everything else we needed to make the cuppa! Unfortunately, some of our instructions were missing pieces of key information so we were unable to make our cuppa. However, we talked our instructions through and learned from our mistakes.

Witches fingers - Instructions

Today in English, Miss Williams and Mrs Waites decided to turn up the heat ( by using an oven)  we were following instructions on how to make biscuits ( witches fingers). Here is the ingredients list: 112g of margarine, 112g of caster sugar, 1/2 of a beaten egg, 1/2 a teaspoon of vanilla essence, 312g of SR flour, 30 whole blanched almonds and tube red icing. We had to pour 1/2 a beaten egg into a mixing bowl. Sounds easy, right? But it's not!

We're just waiting to eat them, now! They'll be delicious!
